MANILA – The Catholic Church began its prayer campaign on Tuesday for candidates running for national office at the start of the 90-day campaign period for the May election.

In a Facebook post, the Manila Cathedral said clergy and congregants also launched its “Prayer Power Campaign” which coincided with the start of the campaign period.

The prayer was previously created by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), a church-based election watchdog, and was endorsed by the Philippine Conference of Catholic Bishops (CBCP).

“As the candidates for the 2022 elections launch their campaigns today, we also begin our prayer campaign for peaceful, credible and transparent elections,” he said.

“As approved by the CBCP, we will be praying the PPCRV Prayer for the 2022 National and Local Elections starting today in all our Masses. May we choose leaders based on our Christian values and teachings” , added the Manila Cathedral.

The prayer called for divine direction to truly reflect the will of the electorate.

“Guide our politics as you guide our lives. May our political commitment to voters and candidates glorify your loving name and help us grow in holiness, forever and ever. Amen,” the prayer reads.

Those who started the campaign on Tuesday are candidates for president, vice president, senator and the party list.
