Concerts at the Cathedral Basilica Season Finale

The concert series at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception is continuing well and the month of May will include two concerts, on 1 and 15 May. These will close the spring 2022 season, “Concerts at the Cathedral Basilica”.

On May 1, the Rocky Mountain Chamber Singers, conducted by Ann S. Bunyan, will sing a program of unaccompanied choral works in a concert titled “A Concert of Thanks and Praise.” This concert will be the last concert of the current conductor of 20 years for the RMCS. A new director, based in Loveland, will lead the ensemble in future concerts. This is the band’s third concert in the basilica.

On May 15, the Vittoria Ensemble will close the season with a concert entitled “In Toto Corde Meo” (With All My Heart), conducted by David McNeil. The Vittoria Ensemble specializes in Roman polyphonic choral music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. This ensemble chooses to give its concerts in December and May in the cathedral, in order to share the music of the church in a setting as magnificent as the cathedral.

Asked about the impact and purpose of the “Concerts at the Cathedral Basilica”, Phil Bordeleau, musical director of the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, points out that the idea of a place for sacred music concerts is precisely in a place of worship. “The choirs, organists, singers and instrumentalists who come to the cathedral present music meant to be heard in a beautiful and worshipful environment,” he told the Denver Catholic. “Furthermore, concerts are open to the public regardless of ability to pay. Anyone can come and hear extraordinary music in an extraordinary place of beauty and be moved. The collected voluntary offering is shared with the performers. The public came from far away and the artists traveled the world, literally to take part in this unique experience. From members of a nursing home who attend regularly, to curious high school listeners, we strive to bring the beauty of sacred music to all people, regardless of their journey in life.

All are welcome and encouraged to join in the appreciation of such beautiful music! For more information, see the flyers below.
