Low turnout at Kano Catholic Church following blast
Christian worshipers, especially at the popular Catholic Church of Our Lady of Sabon Gari Cathedral in Kano state, were still gripped with fear on Sunday after the explosion rocked a residential building opposite the school nursery and primary Winner’s Academy, Sabon Gari. The blast was reportedly caused by a gas explosion and claimed nine lives.
During Sunday morning mass, the cathedral, which was once full of faithful, recorded a low number of attendees, as the seats were sparsely populated.
Previously, all seats in the cathedral were often taken, while church ushers often provided additional seating for overflowing worshipers outside the cathedral.
However, this was not the case at Sunday mass because all the faithful, who took the risk of attending the 6:30 a.m. mass, were comfortable but the cathedral was still sparsely populated.
During the sermon, the officiating Reverend Father praised the efforts of the faithful to attend Sunday Mass, despite the gas explosion that shook parts of Sabon Gari, which had sparked and still sparks controversy among nearby residents. on the cause of the explosion. , whose vibration was felt less than five kilometers from the site of the explosion.
The cathedral’s Ministry of Defense has tightened security as worshipers were screened with bomb detectors before being allowed to enter cathedral premises. It was just as all cars were only allowed to park about 200 meters from the cathedral.
Likewise, more security guards, than ever before, have been enlisted in and around the cathedral, as part of measures to prevent any unforeseen disasters.
